The purpose of the Altar Rosary Society is to praise and honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and to secure her patronage by the recitation of the Rosary for the mutual spiritual benefit of all the members throughout the world.
On October 4, 1965, the gavel was passed from St. Cecelia’s Altar Rosary Society to St. Helena’s Altar Rosary Society, thus marking the Society’s creation in our Parish.
We meet on the first Monday of the month in Church at 7:30 PM. There is either a Mass for our deceased members, benediction or a candlelight rosary ceremony. In May we have the Crowning of the Blessed Mother. After Church, we proceed to our Conference Room where the business of the month is discussed and a short talk is given. Some months we may have a guest speaker. Refreshments are always a part of our agenda.
Some of our accomplishments include:
During the second weekend of every month, we collect non-perishable food for the St. Vincent de Paul Pantry in Perth Amboy.
We participate in the hosting of Sunday breakfast during the summer and Palm Sunday.
Every week the altar is cleaned by members of Bands. Each Band is scheduled for a month a year (sometimes two months). Two members team up each week to accomplish this privilege.
We play an active part in Catholic Charities by assisting to provide necessities for those in need.
How do we communicate with the members?
Our membership is divided geographically into seven Bands with a Prefect for each.
Should a message have to go out to members, the President calls each Prefect who will relay the message to the members of her Band.
The saddest relay message is when a Rosarian passes on. At her funeral Mass we stand “honor guard” when her casket enters and leaves the Church.
At our October meeting, each member is given a schedule of events for the upcoming year, along with the telephone numbers of board members and Prefects.
All ladies of the Parish are invited to attend our meetings at any time. Our meetings take place in the church at 7:30PM on the first Monday of the month, excluding December and January. After the meetings please join us for refreshments in the school.
