The awareness of country, leaders, and the need for rules begin in kindergarten. The understanding of maps and globes is introduced in first grade. By second grade, map and globe skills are redefined and Colonial American History is introduced. In third grade, there is a strong emphasis on history, geography, and citizenship with lessons about other countries as well as the United States.
Our fourth graders explore the regions of the United States with a strong emphasis on the history and geography of New Jersey. This is highlighted with a class trip to Trenton. Students' understanding of history is increased in the fifth grade with concentration on the history of the United States. In sixth grade, students focus on the regions of the world, past and present. Emphasis is placed on history, geography, citizenship and the humanities.
Students in seventh grade are given a thorough understanding of our nation's system of government (Civics). This includes the skills they need to participate in a democratic society and touch upon contemporary issues that face our nation.
Students in eighth grade study American History covering the period from the first Americans to the present time. Emphasis is placed on geographical details and significant historical events are discussed. Current events are debated on a daily basis.
