We offer programs for Pre-K as well as before and after care for families.
All students are members of the Holy Childhood Association. There are a variety of activities to raise money for the missions in addition to classroom donations. Students use Advent and Lenten folders to collect money for the poor. At the end of the year a mission carnival is held.
Students in grades K-8 participate in the St. Jude Math-a-thon and the Pre-K participates in a Trikathon. Proceeds from these events are given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Since we began participating in these two events, we have raised more than $112,000.
Scholastic programs include participation in the National Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies Olympiads and the New Jersey Math League. Fifth, sixth and seventh grade students may participate in the Bishop Ahr Grammar School Competition and the eighth grade students have the option of participating in the St. Joseph's High School math competition.
Students are encouraged to participate in the arts. The Drama Club presents a Broadway show annually. The most recent performance included more than one hundred students from grades 3-8. A Talent Show and an Art Show are held in the spring.
The Literary Club, open to students in grades 4-8, publishes a literary magazine annually.
The School Choir is open to students in grades 2-8. Practices are held at school and the choir is often called upon to sing at the Saturday, 5:30 p.m. children's liturgy and at other celebrations. A newly established bell choir is comprised of students and adults.
Sports programs are provided for students of all ages. These include grade 4 boys' basketball, Junior Varsity basketball for boys and girls in grades 5 and 6, Varsity basketball for boys and girls in grades 7 and 8, co-ed basketball clinic for grades K - 4, Cheerleading Junior Varsity Squad for grades 5 and 6, Varsity Cheerleading for grades 7 and 8, Cheerleading Clinic for grades K - 4, and Soccer Clinic for grades K - 4. Also available are track for grades K through 8, baseball for grades 7 and 8 and softball for girls in grades 6 - 8. The sports' season begins with a pep rally and a Sports Mass.
Students in grades Pre-K- 6 present a Christmas program each year. It is comprised of a play, singing and dancing. Lead parts are done by sixth grade students.
Scouting is provided for boys and girls. The program includes Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Daisies, Brownies and Girl Scouts.
Other programs available are the Dare Program for grade 5, and Safety Patrol, Peer to Peer and Year Book for grade 8.
Class trips provide enrichment for the students. Trips are planned at the discretion of the teacher and with the approval of the principal. As further enrichment, students attend a variety of assemblies throughout the year.
Catholic Schools Week is celebrated with an open house, international luncheon, a Math 24 Tournament, an assembly program put on by Peer-to-Peer and Pre-K Olympics.
To foster parental involvement, parents are invited to liturgies and performances, as well as to individual classrooms as guest speakers or as aides for various student activities. Parents can also volunteer as classroom aides.
