Sister Mary Charles is a member of the Felician Sisters Religious Community also known as the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Felix of Cantalice. She graduated from Felician College and received her Masters Degree in Supervision and Administration from Seton Hall University. She holds a certification in Graphology.

Sister Charles has been involved in the field of education for over thirty-five years. She has served in the Archdiocese of Newark and the dioceses of Wilmington, Reading, Trenton, and Metuchen. While teaching in the Diocese of Wilmington, she was missioned at Our Lady of Grace Home. Sister spent seven years caring for children, who were abandoned or orphaned, while teaching at St. Hedwig School in Wilmington, Delaware.

In 1980, Sister Charles became the third principal of St. Helena School. Over the past twenty-five years, she has been dedicated to St. Helena's. She has given of herself in many aspects of the school and parish by her involvement in preparing both school and CCD children for sacraments, working with altar servers, and preparing the children for special liturgies and events. She has lead the school through two successful Middle States Association Accreditations, most recently in November, 2001. Besides giving of her time and energy to St. Helena School, she has been involved in many diocesan committees. Sister has served on the testing and report card committees, she has been a representative for the Principals' Advisory Council and Middle States Evaluation team.

Sister Charles is currently a member of the Diocese of Metuchen Pro-Life for Action Commission, the Kappa Delta Pi Society, and is on the board of trustees for Felician College in Lodi, New Jersey.

When asked about her longevity at St. Helena's she said, "This is my life - I love what I do. The children are most important to me - I do what I do because of them. I have been fortunate over the years to have worked with a stable and wonderful group of teachers, staff, and Pastor."
